Occidental Grand Papagayo
Hotel Information: Located on Costa Rica’s scenic Northern Pacific coast, this beachfront resort is surrounded by tropical forests and volcanic cliffs that descend to sand beaches and small coves. The resort is 8 km (5 mi) from Playas del Coco, largest village in the Guanacaste province and home to shopping, dining, and nightlife. The village is also a jumping-off point for sport fishing, scuba diving, and surfing.
Amenity highlights: Guests can swim in two outdoor freeform pools (one reserved for children); snorkel, fish, or kayak in the serene waters of Papagayo Bay; polish their forehand on the resort’s lighted tennis court; and take in nightly live entertainment. A volleyball court, day spa, fitness center, and sauna are on site. The resort also offers a daily activities program by the pool and beach.
Insider tip: Located 12 km (7 mi) from the resort, the Congo Trail Canopy Tour (surcharge) takes place in a dry tropical forest with high trees.
