Where to Live

So now that you're thinking of living, retiring or just investing in Costa Rica the question is where. Well the beautiful part about Costa Rica is you can build, rent or buy any home, condo or apartment you are dreaming of doing. Of course this needs to be in accordance of the laws of Costa Rica but for the most part you are free to create whatever you would like. And the area you chose to do this in can be anywhere from busy and very populated to open and empty country side. Some choose to pick gated communities for extra protection while other will build in residential neighborhoods. Houses and land also range in price greatly depending on location. To give you an idea, properties in San Jose and on the beach will be the most expensive. However if you look 20 to 40 miles away from San Jose you can buy property very cheap. Other things you should consider are the cost of living, what region and the infrastructure of that region.

You will find different price markets with different regions thorough out Costa Rica . Some regions are hot markets for buyers and sellers such as the Guanacaste region. Another small yet popular spot is Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side. You should think about the climate that each region experiences. Some are wet and roads can get washed out while others are mild to hot year round. Temperatures in the mountains tend to be cool and moist, a great climate for coffee farms. A rule of thumb is December to April is dry season while May to November is wet season. If you're planning a vacation with us and want the dry season be sure to book in advance as hotels tend to fill up for dry season. For more information on the regions of Costa Rica please see our region section on each one.

Testimonals

I just wanted to thank you again for helping us to plan. We really had a wonderful time.We were very impressed with your country and it's people who all seemed very proud. Many people have expressed interest in going to Costa Rica and I will give them all your information when they are ready to plan! The hotels worked out very nicely. -------- Donna.

First of all I have to say the GPS was an absolute life saver. We were VERY GLAD we had it and I would recommend it to anyone driving around the country. You can use us as a reference. We enjoyed the Hotel Orquideas Inn, the accommodations were very nice, the restaurant served excellent food & a good breakfast & the staff was very friendly.

We did go to the Tree House Restaurant for my Birthday. The food was OK, the Expresso's were wonderful. I enclosed a picture of one of the cups. It was the cutest thing. They draw pictures in the foam - they did a Teddy Bear, a Dragon, a Puppy Dog & a Kitty Cat. Anyway we had a wonderful time. We really miss the delicious coffee! Hopefully we'll be able to plan another trip - maybe in your Summer. We'll let you know. -------- Robbins Family
