Heredia
Heredia is a small but beautiful and is only a 15 minute drive from San Jose. Heredia is located at the base of the Brava Volcano. It is a fast growing area due to its location near San Jose. Heredia is a great region to visit for families. With huge coffee plantations and beautiful country side this city of flowers is a great place to relax.
There is an impressive central park worth seeing. Also a historical basilica of the Inmaculada Concepcion is located at the middle of the city right near a favorite gathering place for locals. The church built in 1796 has bells that were imported from Peru. The church stands at Heredia's Central Park which even has a stage that sometimes hosts concerts and performances. If you do happen to catch a concert here you will be pleased to find plenty of food, drinks and of course dancing!
There is a wide variety of restaurants and shops that are located in Heredia as well. Another attraction at the Central Park is the Elk fortino which is a must see colonial tower for a Spanish fort. Another attraction in this great province is Costa Rica Coffee tours. If you're a Coffee lover it's a must go to tour. It's found in a charming little town called Barva. The famous Café britt has a farm here and gives great tours that end with a tasting. Café britt's Costa Rican coffee is sent all over the world. And you can say you have been there!
If you would like a view of the whole city, go on a clear day to the top of Monte de Cruz. It's a breathtaking view and worth going for. Here in Heredia the main thing you will find is just a slower pace at life. The kind that slows down your heart and gives you a new look at life. Even if you planned on hitting the beaches of Costa Rica you can still spend some time in Heredia as the pan-american Hwy is easy to access and will take you right to the pacific side.
