Whether your a beginner or expert surfer there are enough waves for everyone in Cotsa Rica. Surf lesions are in almost every single top destination and can be added to any Costa Rica Vacation. Most popular in the Guancaste region you will find many sand breaks and easy going surf spots. Popular towns like Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Playa de Coco and Jaco are a great place to pick up some waves. However if your more advanced you might be looking forward to one of the most well known spot in Costa Rica, Witches Rock. Only accessible by boat Witches Rock is one of those breaks where you and a few friends can share perfect waves that last minutes before they hit shore. Day trips can be made from local towns in Guanacaste and the waves are just a boat ride away.
If your new to surfing and want to try it in Costa Rica, many of the beach hotels will have classes in the area available. Be sure to go on a day where the waves are smaller so you can enjoy the experience. Peak season or Dry Season is the best time for beginners as the seas are calmer and the sun is out. If your more advanced year round will bring waves and you can pick between the pacific side or the Caribbean side. The Caribbean side is a bit more advanced and sets on a reef break. The waves tend to get bigger on this side but still clean enough for some great rides.
